An Experiential Trip through the village of Edakochi - On the southern banks of the Kochi backwaters. Edakochi's landscape, culture, good taste and love of food reflect the unique character of the place. Boating in the waters of Edakochi for recreation can be thrilling. So, why not devote some time to canoeing? The most relaxing way to get to know the place is to do an easy hike. Walk around, ask the locals for the best tea shop, watch the prawns being caught by net from the natural farms, meet some of the local producers and try a healthy array of dishes for lunch. Rice with pearl spot and prawns, covered and cooked in Kerala masala is a meal that will fill you with wonder.
There is at a tiny place where you stop to learn how to make the 'nettipattam', the elephant caparison, a valuable showpiece and learn weaving the coconut leaves. You can even be one among the members of a women's self-help group at a meeting where they work together on various developmental projects. Enjoy the traditional folk songs sung by the local men and women. After lunch, take a tuk-tuk ride to the main road. You will feel grateful to the locals for little things that you will hold as cherished memories.
Edakochi can best be experienced as a place of cordial and self-reliant people. The place and people have their own unique characteristics. For a place that stretches out for just 150 m with water bodies on both sides, it's all about a modest life. The people grow their own produce, go fishing, maintain the prawn farms, and depend on the water which provides most of all this. No crowded roads or heavy traffic spoils your happiness here. It's a calm and beautiful place.
