City of 1000 Temples

Kanchipuram, also known as Kanchi, is an ancient city in southern India’s Tamil Nadu state. It is known as the city of thousand temples which reflects the Glorious Traditions of South India with its noted temples. It is widely considered as one of the holiest sites in the country after Varanasi. The city is also well known for its hand-woven silk sarees and most of the city's workforce is involved in the weaving industry. This is a half-day tour of the beautiful city of Kanchipuram.

Itinerary

Meet our experienced guide and proceed to visit the Ekambareswarar Temple, one of the Panchabootha Sthalam [five elements of Nature] representing Prithivi [Earth]. Then visit the Kamakshi Amman Temple, a 12th Century temple in the heart of the town. “Ka” means Goddess Saraswati (God of Education), “Ma” means Goddess Lakshmi (God of Wealth), “Akshi” means Eye. The name in full refers Kamakshi with Goddess Saraswati and Goddess Lakshmi as her both eyes. Also, visit the Kailasanatha Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is built in typical Pallava style with a Pyramidal Tower, pillared halls, and a vestibule more than 50 small shrines are enshrined in this temple complex. You will also visit a silk loom and watch the amazing art of weaving silk from colourful string.

Comfortable non-slip footwear, a hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses are recommended.
The temples are not wheelchair accessible. Footwear must be removed at places of worship.
Non-Hindus are not allowed inside the main sanctum of the temples.
Wear modest clothing - smart casuals with full sleeves are recommended. Avoid shorts and sleeveless tops.
Keep your valuables under safe custody at all times. Avoid wearing expensive jewelry.
