Explore Nandi Hills - Bangalore

Nandi Hills is an ancient hill fortress built by Ganga Dynasty. It was later enlarged and strengthened by Tipu Sultan. The bracing air and serene environs of Nandi Hills, perched at an altitude of 4850 feet above sea level, provided the British and Tipu Sultan with an idyllic summer retreat. In traditional belief, the hills are the origin of the Arkavathy river, Ponnaiyar River, Palar River, Papagni River and Penna River. Nandi Hills is very popular with both the locals and tourists, mainly because of its pleasant climate and beautiful view from the top.

Itinerary

After breakfast, meet our experienced guide and proceed to Nandi Hills. The hills are near the town Nandi in the Chikkaballapur district of Karnataka, located 60kms from Bangalore and the driving time is approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. Nandi Hills is a perfect getaway from the city life of Bangalore. Nandi Hills is named after the holy Bull, Nandi, the vehicle of Hindu God Shiva. The hill stands tall with some lovely views of flora and fauna & the granite hill range around it. Two ancient temples dedicated to Lord Shiva are located in the Hills - The Bhoganandishwara Temple on the foot and The Yoganandishwara Temple on the top of the Nandi Hills. The remains of Tipu Sultan's summer residence, a small two-storey building with a pond and garden nearby can also be seen on top of the Hills. After the visits, drive back to Bangalore.
