Bamboo Rafting

Undulating hills, picture-perfect greenery, shimmering lakes, and cool, aromatic air - Thekkady has it all. Thekkady is also home to the richly bio-diverse Periyar Tiger Reserve. This is a dawn-to-dusk protection-oriented range hiking and rafting program. The route is through some of the richest forest tracts of the Periyar Tiger Reserve. Participants can enjoy trekking for a few hours through a variety of habitats and then they are taken on a bamboo raft on the lake. After the lunch break, the participants return to base in the same manner.

Itinerary

Meet your trained tribal guide and armed forest guards and proceed for a beautiful trek through the wilderness of Periyar Tiger Reserve. In this program, participants stand a high chance of spotting exotic wildlife like the giant squirrels and the Nilgiri Langurs. Various birds, elephants, gaur, sambar, and other animals are usually sighted during the rafting trip. While rafting across the lake, you can also feast your eyes on the thick greenery of the shores, and on a good day, you may even get to see aboriginals fishing in the lake.

Instructions

This full-day program inside the Periyar Tiger Reserve is offered only in groups, accompanied by a trained tribal guide. A maximum of 10 persons are allowed, and the participants have to be at least 12 years or older. Nature-friendly costumes, a binocular, a cap, and a pair of good walking shoes are recommended.
